Match prediction

The ratio K/S is adequate for match prediction when most of the scatter at each wavelength is contributed by the substrate as is the case with textiles, or by the white content in the case of paints and plastics.

The full colour matching equation is:

where a, b are concentrations of pigments A, B etc, and w refers to the white.
KA, KB ... KW are absorption coefficients of pigments and white.
SA, SB ... SW are scatter coefficients of pigments and white.

If in the above equations the scatter of the white and the concentration of the white (or substrate in textiles) is large compared with the scatter contribution by the coloured components whether they be pigments or dyes, then the equation may be simplified to:-

a(K/S)A + b(K/S)B +...+ w(K/S)W = (K/S)M
