Learning the fretboard

All note names progress up the strings in alphabetical order. The distance betweeb B and C and between E and F is one fret. All other notes are seperated by two frets

If you study the guitar fretboard you will discover the positions of any notes make eithe a diamond or 'Z' shape.This knowledge can be a valuble aid for finding notet on the fretboard.

To learn the fretboard, first memorise the open strings, the fifth fret, the tenth fret and the notes on the 5th and 6th strings. Combined with the knowledge of the diamond and 'Z' shape this will enable you to work out the position of any note on any string.
